Eva Longoria sizzling in black leather, got her colorful talons around her talented friend Dania Ramirez, star of Premium Rush at Tao, Vegas. In the DJ booth, Longoria later gave a shout out to all the single ladies and men, calling out, “You should get together tonight!” She later slipped into Tao flats to dance into the night. Seen here, left, single ladies and men get blasted by a confetti cannon at Tao. Paris Hilton and bro Barron meanwhile hit nearby Marquee where Paris sang “Last Night” from her VIP table. And at Marquee Sydney, Olympic gold medalist Usain bolt was spotted dancing to hip hop with his sunglasses on backwards. Benji and Joel Madden were also in the Aussie house.
Don’t generally talk about neighbors, but our career mailman told me that he’s only run into Madonna twice, but that she gave him a CD, which I thought was sooo sweeet of her. I was just really touched when he said it. It just struck me now but Liz Tilberis used to live in one of the townhouses that Madonna now owns. Anne Moore, the fab hat designer grew up in one, too. We used to call it the Moore’s baronial townhouse, but that was just one of the four that M has (so I think we can now upgrade that up to palatial . . . . I too, have only seen her twice. She is a very discrete neighbor and one night when I came home at 2 a.m. and saw something I shouldn’t have, I just looked the other way. . . Live and let live. She’s always been a doll to me on red carpets, like the really big time stars, they throw you a little bone. And she’s such a great communicator.
When she gives a speech it is always beautifully said; Warhol used to say that speaking really clearly is the quality that all major executives have. And Madonna has it big time. When you run into people over and over over the decades, oddly enough, you get a sense of who they are and I believe she has a lot of soul. She feels things and wants to feel things–the historic parts of her Wallis and Edward so uniquely brought one back to the period–and then when I heard about her handing the CD to the mailman. .. what a doll. . .
Starting to feel as if I know what it would be like to be a dictator. Was invited by Mission of Botswana to see the film Black November (with Mickey Rourke and Kim Bassinger) at the General Assembly in NYC . . . THIS WEEK! The film is a bit simplistic, but it has a heartfelt message, there are behemoth daily oil spills in Nigeria that are sadly never cleaned up. I had to sneak out early, because Don King and a few others, including a US congressman, and a Nigerian oil official, gave an hour of speeches before it started. And security was still in place for all the Heads of State and, yup, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who spoke yesterday. So when I walked out, there were a good 80 people guarding me, maybe 180 armed guards, including all the side streets, and miles of metal stanchions and cement barricades fortifying them, even around all the side streets.
And I had just had similar protection on Saturday and Sunday at the Emmy Awards. I showed up two hours early at Emmy awards, and it was that same end of the world feeling, where you’re the only one. Just protection, on a biblical scale, for you as far as you can see. And they had those metal pieces on the street at Emmy’s that rise up and could stop a truck, like on Wall Street. Nero, Hitler, Baby Doc, after day three of that kind of setting, I’m thinking, Jesus, it must be lonely at the top. And I’m zinging out little one liners at the guards as they each let me pass through stop points, like I’m Bush II or Reagan. I mean, you feel for them having to just stand there all night. And they say great stuff to you, like . . “You have a wonderful night.”
Just a real upper. Like when I was walking behind behind Sophia Vergara backstage at the Emmy Awards and two pasta servers stopped me and gushed. .. “We love your show!”
Jack Osbourne and his bearded buddies kicked off his bachelor party on Thursday with a road tripping to Vegas. Saturday they partied [Jack didn't imbibe] at the Azure Pool at The Palazzo where they enjoyed a private cabana. At 4:00 PM they headed to Lagasse Stadium for Oktoberfest and to watch the UFC Fight and college football. They dined on Munich Brat, Potato Salad and brewskies. But, again, not Jack, re: beer.
So sans hangover for J.O., the group woke around 7am for hiking and ATVing. Again, no strippers; no nude Princes, no Tiger or Mike Tyson! What? It was more of an adventure bachelor party, or lack of adventure . . . bears in training?
Today is my day to type and write after a crazy Emmy weekend. It was Death Valley hot on the red carpet. I had a black umbrella and loads of liquids, but I am hearing that 14 people passed out.
BAFTA tea was on the roof of The London. Also burning hot on Sat afternoon.
Someone tried to attend HBO fete as me last night. When I got there security said, So you’re the real Jeff Slonim. It actually felt like I was somebody. Oh, and I was backstage at the emmy awards, and I was walking near Sofia Vergara at one point, and some servers shook my hand and told me they loved my show. Which also made me feel ten feet tall and I told them as much.
But fortunately, at the HBO party, the LA journalists know me and let HBO know. And threw the guy and his date out. That was happening to me in Hamptons one summer, until I wrote a column and mentioned that they should try to arrest them. Never a dull moment. Met that woman Michelle from Downton Abby (sp). What a dream. So happy to be there when Julianne Moore won her Emmy. I ran into her and Bart backstage and it was really a moment. [she was my homecoming date Junior year of High School and she deserves every award for just being a great person all these years as well as a sensational actress. And Bart is just such a great guy, too and we were both just so happy, she was so great in Game Change really nailed Sarah Palin role] She has come so close so many times but to be there standing with them and she is holding this big award with wings! We really had a moment.
Also, Alison Williams from Girls is soooooo nice. She was my niece Tessa’s best friend in Kindergarden (Tessa’s now at Yale Law) And A.W. called me over to tell me Oscar had made her dress. This was at the HBO party, and she knew so much about Oscar. She is so smart. And Lena Dunham brought her parents to HBO, they left around midnight and she was kidding me that they were doing the early bird special. That was so nice and smart of her to bring her parents. Mine are getting old and I so wish I had done more stuff like that for them. When I first met her she said that she was obsessed with my page in Allure and she wanted to be on it. And last night she said when it came out with her in it, she cut it out and put it up on her wall. What a sweetheart. I told her that Rashida Jones had told me she spent a whole day in bed watching Girls. And she loved that.
And Heidi klum was so great on red carpet, said she would come back for me, and then she did and she looked so great. A lot of people were just sooo nice. .. like Jane Krakowski. Fun, fun day. HBO party as always was a complete blowout. They just really make it lavish and fun and everybody comes. And it isn’t at all uptight like a big party like that would be in NYC.
Loved meeting the Downton abby people at BAFTA tea at London. Had two events at Montage on Friday night, one for Heiffer, this charity that gives animals to people in third world. Ted Danson was saying he loves picking out animals and that they had a waterbuffalo at their house once for an event. Jane Fonda came. She really looks great. Oh, and Kevin Costner was really nice at this Party at So house for Hatfields and McCoys. His new wife is really pretty. And Jenna Malone was in hot pants and you thought it was crazy, but then it was 120 degrees where we had to do red carpet so she was the really smart one. She had on big platforms and this shorts, really edgy and fun. Time to write. I’m next to a fountain at my hotel. Ran into Bruce Villanch at burger joint down the street one night. Fun trip.
Celebrity forecast: Hangover. .. . Dateline Mario Lopez bachelor Party in Vegas. It all began innocently enough at a cabana at TAO Beach in Vegas with crispy rice, quesadillas, a fruit platter, sushi and some toasting. And then it got bubbly indeed when a parade of blow up animals (now that’s exotic) delivered the champers via the pool. . . some of Mario Lopez last single moments. Last seen poolside at Tao . . .

Last night at Nick and Toni’s in East Hampton, spotted Billy Joel and the new galpal. She’s very pretty and blonde. . . They sat outside on the porch and did a big round top with friends. Got up early and took a Jitney back to the city to catch brunch with cast of …10 Years (a High School Reunion flick) at Hotelle Chantelle at 92 Ludlow. We had to wear our names on stickers like reunion guests. Channing Tatum said he still keeps up with High School galpal, and that his input about her inspired his character in the film. His wife Jenna was there, this was only the first movie they’ve done together since they met on a set. And Kate Mara dating Max Minghella (the late director’s son; they looked sweet together). Anthony Mackie was super nice at the brunch, and was trying to claim he was a total nerd in High school. He apparently went to Prep school in Carolinas. I didn’t want to come all the way back in from the Hamptons, but I knew it was one of those settings, sunny rooftop brunch, where you bond with everybody. And it so was. . . The gals were mostly wearing Alice + Olivia. Ari Granor “For a Good Time . .. Call”) told me she met Bendet, the designer, at her premiere for that film. Perfect reunion dresses.
A house guest had left us a gift card for Nick and Toni’s which is a stone’s throw from our little cottage in East Hampton and we used it last night.
