On the 23rd, my sister and I brought my Aunt and our mom to see The Hamilton, the new giant restaurant behind the Willard hotel in Washington. It is around the corner from the Old Ebbitt Grill, which is a Washington classic. They have a huge installation of my brother Hunt’s paintings, giant mural and loads of huge works by Hunt. Really spectacular. Mavis Staples is playing there, in the venue downstairs, on January 19.
In Manhattan, out of towners begin showing up to shop about the time they light the behemoth Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. And as traffic grinds to a standstill, then everyone who lives here decides to throw their big holiday parties of the year. I’m running to a Swedish glug party in a minute. Last night, my brother Hunt and I caught Brooke Shields as Morticia Adams in The Adams Family. Wow was she perfect. And she had us come visit her backstage and was really lovely. She had a little sitting room with furniture and one of the dresses she’d worn in the show was just slung over the back of a couch. And a very famous model came to visit at the same time (won’t give the name out of courtesy and privacy). But it was a glam scene. And Brooke is just the nicest person. Hunt and I had seen the show before she was in it and the show had been completely ho hum. But Brooke has the height and the body and the looks to pull off Morticia and she really makes the whole thing work. Hit Aspery and Beretta today for last minute gifts.
