I am told that Aby Rosen’s annual fetes at Art Basel in Miami are crazy starry and packed with so many beautiful, well-known people you can’t move; but everyone looks so great, you don’t mind. That said, his birthday fete at The Paramount Hotel tonight was also nothing to sneeze at. Bronson Van Wyck says he sees parties with beautiful people, and ones with beautiful clothes, but to see both at one event is rare. Van Wyck redesigned the interior for the eve with great bundles of red fabric swags with gold rope pouring out of a window on the balcony. And a wall of flowers as a photo backdrop in a back corner. A woman in a long, long white dress on a swing, looked amazing from upstairs. In fact, it looked like a view into 54 or a hot 80s club from upstairs. And, yes, that was Guy Oseary perched next to Bono on low peach seating on the main level. And upstairs, the Olsen sisters were puffing hard on ciggies. Smelled the occasional wiff of skunk in the distance. H’mmm. And there was a Brant bro doing photos nearby. And Owen Wilson was in maybe a plaid flannel shirt and looking scruffy, palling around with Tony Shafrazi. And Kelly Behun, an interior designer who helped design the first Paramount for Ian Schrager, mentioned that the old furniture is supposed to be in storage. Phew! The new look is sort of low and dark. I think the new management wanted a more masculine look. Similar, but not as severe as what happened to The Royalton. Still, everyone, and I mean practically everyone, Allison Sarofim, Olivier Theyskens, Jacqui Getty, Andre Leon Talley, Hamish Bowles, Vanessa Von Bismark, Jamie Tisch, Richie Notar, Bob Colacello, looked to be partying as if it were 1989. Tons of models and socials and artists and art photogs. And think lots of champers and cup cakes and cannolli, and little cookies at the end with a black and white image of Aby when he was younger, I think (I ate mine). Oh, and the cake was tall and chocolate-iced and shaped like one of the iconic buildings that Rosen owns (Lever House, I think, possibly Seagram’s; just got a glimpse as they spirited it away, tasted like carrot with layers of creamy filling). So much for my diet!
