Matthew McConaughey and Camilla Alves attended the Veuve Clicquot Polo Challenge at Liberty State Park on Saturday. And polo star Nacho Figueras, bravely attended, with the support of two crutches. A horse fell and rolled on him twice, cracking his hip and tearing a muscle only two weeks ago. He came out to watch his son Hilario play for Nacho’s Black Watch team, and Hilario and the team took the cup! Hilario is age 13. McConaughey wore Neil Barrett. And Camilla had on Herve Leger dress that just happened to match the Veuve yellow ice buckets on the tables at the seating, under veuve yellow sun umbrellas. Ashley Olsen, in an orange Kaftan, also carried a small veuve umbrella at one point.
Car picked me up at 10:15 a.m. this Wednesday morn and took me to Peter Brants house in Greenwich for the Sentebale Polo match against St. Regis team, headed by Nacho Figueras. And I ended up having a STELLAR time. St. Regis hotel hosted my FAB table at lunch. Sat with Jason Wu and Jessica Stam. Not just a little fun, we were laughing and telling stories. During the auction, Karolina Kurkova’s husband bought round of golf with Catherine Zeta Jones in Greenwich. Jessica also bid. Kurkova sat with Valentino and Nacho and Delfina, his wife, and their new baby. Harry called Nacho handsome in his speech at lunch. Royal compliment. Many of the players were wearing blue blazers and white pants (kind of a uniform at polo lunches for players) Valentino kept his rain coat much of the afternoon as did Gian Carlo.
We all moved to the stands after lunch. The late Jed Johnson designed them, and they really help one focus on Polo. Kudos JJ.
Score tied one to one at half. But no one went out to stamp divots due to security.
Harry hit a backhander. Nacho scored two goals. And then, finally the Prince scored the winning goal. To be completely honest, Harry hit the last shot toward the goal, then the announcer announced that someone else tapped it in. And then that guy came over and said, “No, Harry got that last goal.” So, no matter what it was a very courtly afternoon. . . Harry’s # on back of his shirt was 1. Karolina Kurkova helped pass out the awards. Some folks were staying for dinner.
