At Marquee, a bookishly dressed Aaron Paul and fiancé Lauren Parsekian partied in the Library Room. He rocked a bow tie and Lauren donned a veil in preparation for their wedding next week as they danced and canoodled. The groom’s cake was designed by Aaron to look like the steps in Paris near the Eiffel Tower where he proposed. Sweet. Inscription: “My pretty bird, thank you for loving me.” PDA alert!
And at LAVO, Chloë Moretz pow wowed in dining room with friends. They tucked into the Kobe Meatball, Chicken Parmigiano and other Italian specialties.

My Faves, Part VIII: A series in which I randomly mention things that I love when I happen to find great pics on internet.
Dr. Axel Munthe wrote a book called The Story of San Michele, which happens to have been one of my grandmother’s favorite books back in the day. Dr. Munthe completely lost his eyesight for a time, and then regained it after an operation. And he ended up living, I think at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. In any case, when I was visiting the Royal Libraries in Stockholm, they showed me a copy of The Story of San Michele signed by Munthe, in Swedish, “To the King.” His handwriting was pretty sketchy at that point, and it was apparently not so appropriate to call the King “Kungen.” It ought to have been His Royal Highness, so the Royal librarian thought it was amusing that he was so far gone. I later found a copy at a flea market and it sat on my shelf for some decades. And then maybe six years ago, I finally read it. And it is THE MOST extraordinary story. He was a Swedish psychiatrist and he moved to Paris and was very tall and handsome and all of the society ladies were hiring him to cure their “nerves.” And I think when he’d try to quit, they’d just increase what they were paying him, and he became fairly rich. He also ended up marrying a Brit woman with a title and a few sensational estates of her own in GB. And he built a great house for her in Sweden. And he bought this land in Capri. I’m sure those who visit Capri know this story far better than myself. But I believe the land he snatched up had previously been owned by Emperor Tiberius. And they consequently dug up a gre at number of beautiful ancient statues. And he built a beautiful villa trying to recreate what had once been there. And he also worked to save the birds that migrated to the island. He was friends with Henry James who encouraged him to write his extraordinary stories down. And you just can’t believe how great some are: The Tsar sent 9 rabid men to Paris who had been attacked by wolves. He worked with Pasteur. He also was very close with the King and Queen (Victoria) of Sweden, I think he ended up giving his villa to the state. And the Queen helped him buy up land for his bird sanctuary. It may still be a Swedish study center. I’ve actually never been, but can’t wait to go some day because Munthe lived the most extraordinary life. The book is a treasure. . . here, a few pics from the villa, and of Munthe himself.

Just say no to Banana Hammocks? Okay, you know how sometimes women’s dresses go see through with the flash. . . I’m just sayin’. Eddie Judge and his bride to be Tamara Barney (Real Housewives of OC) hit Azure at The Palazzo in Vegas and when the flash flashed, I think we got way, way, way too much information. To be fair there may be a shirt stuffed into those shorts as well and/or, a source says, alleged a towel?–yikes. But the rear view is equally horrifying. They meanwhile nibbled on Wolfgang Puck specialties including yummy Margerita Pizza, Portobello Pizza, Chinois Chicken Salad, Grilled Prime Burger. Joining the bachelorette fete were Tamara BFFs Heather and Terry Dubrow from the show and actress and Chelsea Lately comic Heather McDonald. FOR HORRIFYING CLOSEUP [I warned you] click on the photos.

Dennis Van Tine’s superb photo of Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig on the set of Anchorman 2. He showed me and I thought to shoot his camera, and was shocked that the image of his image turned out. Dennis is an extraordinary photographer. When I was at the post I learned his name, because his photos were always the really great shots. Also spotted Paul Rudd today as I happened to pass the set of Anchorman 2 at 55th And 6th. I had been covering the Epic premiere with Colin Farrell, Amanda Seifried, and Jason Sudekis. Sudeikis kidded that he could finally put on his resume that he was involved in a project with Beyonce (she wasn’t at Ziegfeld).
Farrell and Farrell! In the afternoon, on my way to the play Matilda with the kids, we noticed 5 or six seventies cars on Park Avenue. My taxi driver asked what a Checker was, as there were several old cabs. They were clearly all extras for Anchorman 2, as they were also dressed in 70s garb. What a huge production!

I am told that Aby Rosen’s annual fetes at Art Basel in Miami are crazy starry and packed with so many beautiful, well-known people you can’t move; but everyone looks so great, you don’t mind. That said, his birthday fete at The Paramount Hotel tonight was also nothing to sneeze at. Bronson Van Wyck says he sees parties with beautiful people, and ones with beautiful clothes, but to see both at one event is rare. Van Wyck redesigned the interior for the eve with great bundles of red fabric swags with gold rope pouring out of a window on the balcony. And a wall of flowers as a photo backdrop in a back corner. A woman in a long, long white dress on a swing, looked amazing from upstairs. In fact, it looked like a view into 54 or a hot 80s club from upstairs. And, yes, that was Guy Oseary perched next to Bono on low peach seating on the main level. And upstairs, the Olsen sisters were puffing hard on ciggies. Smelled the occasional wiff of skunk in the distance. H’mmm. And there was a Brant bro doing photos nearby. And Owen Wilson was in maybe a plaid flannel shirt and looking scruffy, palling around with Tony Shafrazi. And Kelly Behun, an interior designer who helped design the first Paramount for Ian Schrager, mentioned that the old furniture is supposed to be in storage. Phew! The new look is sort of low and dark. I think the new management wanted a more masculine look. Similar, but not as severe as what happened to The Royalton. Still, everyone, and I mean practically everyone, Allison Sarofim, Olivier Theyskens, Jacqui Getty, Andre Leon Talley, Hamish Bowles, Vanessa Von Bismark, Jamie Tisch, Richie Notar, Bob Colacello, looked to be partying as if it were 1989. Tons of models and socials and artists and art photogs. And think lots of champers and cup cakes and cannolli, and little cookies at the end with a black and white image of Aby when he was younger, I think (I ate mine). Oh, and the cake was tall and chocolate-iced and shaped like one of the iconic buildings that Rosen owns (Lever House, I think, possibly Seagram’s; just got a glimpse as they spirited it away, tasted like carrot with layers of creamy filling). So much for my diet!

Sighting: Not even sure if Church Lady ever shot in a real Church, but Seth Meyers was just spotted at Park Avenue Christian Church, “The Park,” where he is said to be shooting an SNL skit in the basement. Anderson Cooper is also thought to be stopping by, and Ben Affleck is allegedly hosting, so, he too, take a pew. Yes, SNL just got a bit closer to the man upstairs. . .

Car picked me up at 10:15 a.m. this Wednesday morn and took me to Peter Brants house in Greenwich for the Sentebale Polo match against St. Regis team, headed by Nacho Figueras. And I ended up having a STELLAR time. St. Regis hotel hosted my FAB table at lunch. Sat with Jason Wu and Jessica Stam. Not just a little fun, we were laughing and telling stories. During the auction, Karolina Kurkova’s husband bought round of golf with Catherine Zeta Jones in Greenwich. Jessica also bid. Kurkova sat with Valentino and Nacho and Delfina, his wife, and their new baby. Harry called Nacho handsome in his speech at lunch. Royal compliment. Many of the players were wearing blue blazers and white pants (kind of a uniform at polo lunches for players) Valentino kept his rain coat much of the afternoon as did Gian Carlo.
We all moved to the stands after lunch. The late Jed Johnson designed them, and they really help one focus on Polo. Kudos JJ.
Score tied one to one at half. But no one went out to stamp divots due to security.
Harry hit a backhander. Nacho scored two goals. And then, finally the Prince scored the winning goal. To be completely honest, Harry hit the last shot toward the goal, then the announcer announced that someone else tapped it in. And then that guy came over and said, “No, Harry got that last goal.” So, no matter what it was a very courtly afternoon. . . Harry’s # on back of his shirt was 1. Karolina Kurkova helped pass out the awards. Some folks were staying for dinner.

Ashlee Simpson at the American Ballet Theatre tonight. The PR peeps said she wouldn’t be talking to press, and then we were walking in at the same time and she came up and gave me a smooch on the cheek. What a doll. She looks amazing! And we both split before the dinner. She snuck off in a car. I walked off to grab Mexican food. I like her style. Her earring was sharp!
Ivan Vasiliev and Natalia Osipova were soooo great in Le Corsaire. And the last piece, Bizet Symphony in C choreography by Balanchine wowed everyone. Countless dancers onstage all at once in mind-blowing precision.
When we were walking out, someone noticed a gold watch and phone on the floor, and some socials called over an attendant. And I actually spotted a diamond on the ground on the stairs on the way out, but it would have caused a real stir to stop in the moving crowd, so I didn’t. But I’m going to start looking down more. The woman next to me was really tall and beautiful and blonde. And she crinkled candy wrapper before intermission.
And then she loudly asked to borrow my program and then flipped pages loudly during ballet. Was just so not cool, I’ve almost never seen anything like it. Thought it would have made a cute meet in one of those old movies. I would have cast Dudley Moore and Karolina Kurkova.
Lisa Falcone did a one woman standing ovation after Symphony in C. Ouch.
But she was right. . it was pretty crazy great.

Part two, my faves: Diamond Jim Brady, diamond-encrusted bike he gave Lillian Russell, and Russell. Wow, looks as if she truly deserved the bike, which she kept in a plush case when she wasn’t riding it. New York has always bred some rather extraordinary characters. . .
